At Kut Kreator, we try to be good neighbors and friends to our neighborhood families.  Many families need a little TLC to help them get through the days.  Whether they are unemployed, under-employed, dealing with serious family issues, or unable to provide for themselves and their families for any reason, we want to help them address those concerns, especially when it comes to caring for their children.  For that reason, we do as much as we can to give a little love and care to the kids of those families ... free back-to-school haircuts every year, collecting school supplies to give them so they don’t start school without, a little hot dog roast to help them celebrate the beginning of a new school year, and Christmas presents for an annual Christmas party in one of our poorest neighborhoods.  We aren’t rich, but we know everyone can do SOMETHING, and that’s what we try to do.  We think our neighbors appreciate it, and number us among their friends.

Back to School 2016

This event gets bigger every year and more inclusive of everyone in the community who wants to help out.  This year, six Kut Kreator barbers worked constantly from 8 am to 12 noon on August 15th giving free haircuts to any child heading back to school.  The Jacksonville Police Department and York County Sheriff’s office also sent volunteers who brought school supplies along with, and did finger-printing of children so parents would have that document on hand to identify children in the event of an emergency.  Additionally, other business owners and individuals donated more than $500 for the purchase of book bags and all the school supplies these kids could want to start school off right. Volunteers also manned the grill out in front of the barber shop and handed out hot dogs and cold drinks to everyone.

From the minute the doors opened, kids poured in to get their haircuts .... and they just kept coming!

Everyone feels better when they have a fresh haircut to start off the school year!

Making new friends in the police and Sheriff’s Department, getting fingerprints taken, and then sporting a big grin along with their very own “Police Badge” ... perfect!

Thanks to Sgt. Melvin Billingslea of the Sheriff’s Department, Community Service Officer, William Andress and Patrolman Andrew Hems of the Rock Hill Police Department

Look at all the school supplies!  And the morning was 1/2 over when this photo was taken.   Just love watching the kids checking out their “loot.”

Time to Eat!
